Signs You May be Ready for Facial Rejuvenation Treatment

iStock 1256093883 Facial rejuvenation has been available for over a century, with exciting new treatments emerging every few months, it seems. Still, adults who are ready to revive their youthful appearance often hesitate. Because plastic surgery has been the go-to for so long, they assume that if they are not ready to take that step, their choices are limited to what they can do to care for their skin at home. That’s not the case. If you are frustrated by the signs of aging that you see in the mirror, you can benefit from consulting with a professional. At the Cleveland Plastic Surgery Institute, patients can receive information and care from a team of experienced professionals who know how to correct the various signs of aging.

Is it Time to Consider Treatment?

There are certain hallmarks of aging for which many people seek treatment. The timing of treatment is different for everyone and is based on their personal preferences and tolerance for facial aging. Some of the reasons people come visit us for plastic surgery or nonsurgical facial rejuvenation include:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles. Some of the first signs of changes on the face may include concerns like frown lines, crow’s feet, and fine lines around the lips. Some creases are caused by facial expression and muscle movement. All have a little something to do with the decline in collagen production that happens in our early 20s.
  • Loose, sagging skin. Skin laxity occurs over time because, without consistent collagen production and remodeling, the skin becomes thinner, dryer, and looser. Laxity may show up on the upper eyelids, below the eyes as sagging bags, or, commonly, along the jawline as jowls.
  • Uneven skin tone and texture. Changes in the skin’s tone and texture often do not occur until sometime after age 40, though they can begin much earlier depending on genetics and sun exposure. Uneven skin tone distorts the skin’s uniform pigmentation. It may look like broken capillaries or ruddiness. Texture changes often go hand-in-hand with dehydration of the skin, resulting in a rough or bumpy texture.
  • Dark spots. This type of discoloration is different from uneven skin tone because it has less to do with dehydrated, thin skin and more to do with sun damage. Dark spots may appear on the face, neck, chest, arms, and other areas.
