What can a rhinoplasty do?
During a rhinoplasty, Dr. Leedy uses surgical procedures to change the shape, contour, and size of your nose. Often referred to as a “nose job,” Dr. Leedy works to make your nose proportionate to the rest of your facial features.
Dr. Leedy may change the shape and size of your nose bridge, nose tip, or nostrils to improve your nose's cosmetic elements. He can correct any issues that have arisen from a traumatic injury or broken nasal bones.
What happens during a rhinoplasty?
During your initial consultation with Dr. Leedy, you can discuss the aspects of your nose you’d like to change. He examines your nose and gives you realistic expectations of what rhinoplasty can do for your nose.
He performs rhinoplasty as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia and sedatives. Once you’re ready for surgery, he makes incisions inside your nostrils and uses surgical tools to reshape your nose's bone and cartilage. The procedure takes about two hours.
After your rhinoplasty, you must wear a splint to help the nose hold its new shape. Dr. Leedy may pack your nostrils to support your septum and reduce bleeding.
What’s the recovery period after a rhinoplasty?
After your rhinoplasty, your nose swells, bruises, and may bleed. For at least the first 24 hours afterward, you must keep your head elevated. Take over-the-counter pain relievers to manage any discomfort, and spend a few days resting. You should return to normal daily activities in about a week.
Dr. Leedy recommends wearing your nasal splint for one to two weeks after surgery. It takes a few weeks before you start seeing the true shape of your new nose and around three months for total healing to occur.
Who needs a secondary rhinoplasty?
If you’ve had one rhinoplasty, but are unhappy with the results, a secondary rhinoplasty may improve its appearance. It’s a complex surgery due to scar tissue from the first rhinoplasty, but Dr. Leedy is highly skilled and has trained under some of the best plastic surgeons.
